In the HOUSE of DELEGATES,
Ordered, that the several county court clerks do immediately transmit to this House copies of the list of tithables in their counties, and also the publick accounts, to enable the Committee of Claims to lay the publick levy.

About this entry:
Tithables, which included livestock and ownership of land, usually refers to any white man and all Negroes over the age of sixteen on whom a tax was levied. When the poll tax was eliminated in 1645 the county courts became responsible for submitting a list of all tithable persons to the Committee of Public Claims of the House of Burgesses. The financial affairs of the colony were handled by this committee.
