WILLIAMSBURG, May 1, 1779.
Last Wednesday evening was married, the Rev. James Madison, President of William and Mary college, to Miss Sally Taite of this city.

Rev. James Madison was a cousin of President James Madison. He graduated from William and Mary in 1771. He went to England to be ordained and returned to teach at William and Mary. He was elected president of the college in 1777, an office he held until his death in 1812. He became the first bishop of the Diocese of Virginia in 1790. He and Sarah Taite Madison had two children, James Catesby and Susan. Bishop Madison died in 1812 and is interred in the Wren Building. Sarah died in 1815; her place of burial is not known.
