Today in the 1770s: January 28

WILLIAMSBURG, January 28, 1775.
A LETTER by Capt. Hunter, of the William, just arrived at Norfolk, from London, says, "it is generally believed the unhappy disputes with the colonies will be amicably settled when the new Parliament meets, but that nothing can be determined on with certainty until the sense of the General Congress is known." Capt. Hunter had a 7 weeks passage, and brought papers to the 17th of November, which contain nothing very important.
