About this entry:

The Continental Congress in Philadelphia directed every county, city and town to choose a committee to carry out the resolutions of the Continental Congress, one of which was to make sure that anyone breaking the embargo of British goods should be exposed and shunned.

Language notes:

"viz." and and videlicet are adverbs used as synonyms of "namely", "precisely", "that is to say". Viz. is a corrupted abbreviation of videlicet.
