New York City

(1785 - 1790)

The Continental Congress selected New York City as the new seat of government. The delegates met in the “Old City Hall” in January, at the invitation of city officials. The Declaration of Independence most likely was housed there, but it probably was removed to temporary quarters while "Old City Hall" underwent renovation.
