Safeguarding the Declaration of Independence Trenton, New Jersey

Trenton, New Jersey

(November - December 1784)

Searching for a new permanent home, the Continental Congress met in Trenton, New Jersey, in late 1784. The lack of accommodations, due chiefly to the meeting of the state legislature in the same city, prohibited an extended stay. It is not known whether the Declaration of Independence made the journey to Trenton.
