The colonial colleges evolved into prestigious universities: 1) New College-Harvard University, 1636; 2)College of William and Mary, 1693;3) Collegiate School-Yale University, 1701; 4) College of New Jersey-Princeton University, 1746; King's College-Columbia University, 1754; 6) College of Philadelphia -University of Pennsylvania, 1755; 7) College of Rhode Island-Brown, 1764; 8)Queen's College-Rutgers, 1766; and 9) Dartmouth, 1769.
