Architecture, Archaeology, and the Revolution in Williamsburg
|
Issue |
Volume 36, Number 03 (CWJ, Summer 2014)
|
Description |
Architectural history is written by destruction as well as by construction. Significant changes to sites in colonial times were the result of political and societal events, such as the Boston Tea Party, Lord Dunmore's 1775 raid on the public Magazine, the 1776 destruction of Norfolk and the 1779 relocation of VA's capitol to Richmond.
