Title Wind, Water, Gravity . . . Energy Was Natural to Early Americans
Issue Volume 36, Number 03 (CWJ, Summer 2014)
Description Colonial Americans used "green" energy--harnessing the power of water, wind and animals, even the sun--because it was cheap, dependable, and plentiful, not out of ecological consciousness. Water and windmills for grinding grains abounded in colonial times, oxen and horses pulled weight humans could not, and wind powered sailing ships.
