Title Commonsense Arguments for American Independence Thomas Paine Promoted Revolution, Rights, and Reason
Issue Volume 35, Number 04, (CWJ, Autumn 2013)
Description Biography of Thomas Paine and description of his significant publications such as "Common Sense" and "The American Crisis" illustrate how he influenced and promoted the American Revolution among the populace. Details of post-American Revolution publications such as "The Rights of Man" and "The Age of Reason" eventually led to rejection of Paine's perceived radicalism by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. Paine later found favor with other American presidents, e.g. JFK and Ronald Reagan.
