Title Bound for America: The First Africans Arrived in Virginia in 1619

Description The year 1619 introduced two features that define much of American history--self government and the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to English America. Originally from the kingdom of Ndongoa in Angola, the Africans were captured by the Portuguese and sent to the New World as slaves.
