First enraptured in 1775 by cause of the American Revolution the Marquis de Lafayette was offered a position as a major general in the Continental Army by Silas Deane and Benjamin Franklin. Only 19 when he left France, he went on to serve at General George Washington's side until 1781 and the victory at Yorktown.
