Description | John Adams and Thomas Jefferson escaped thorny diplomatic dilemmas on tours of the garden spots of Europe. In the 1780s, both men were stationed in Europe (Adams in England, Jefferson in France) as American ministers. Jefferson joined Adams in London for negotiations on a trade agreement with Britain. In 1786, they took a coach excursion to tour 20 estates outside of London. |
