The Promise of Patrick Henry

Issue |
Volume 03, Number 03 (T&T, Summer 2018)
|
Description |
The defense of a contested election in Hanover County in 1764 was the first hint of the oratory yet to come. Patrick Henry's defense of Nataniel West Dandridge's election to county coroner in Hanover County before the House of Burgesses revealed a strict enforcement of public morality that he would voice later against the Stamp Act. His effort failed, but in November he returned as a member of the Burgesses.
