Title Made in America
Issue Volume 03, Number 02 (T&T, Spring 2018)
Description As tensions rose, colonists showed their resistance to Britain through their choice of homespun and this eventually led to the rise of American textile manufacturing. Homespun came to define any textiles produced domestically in a non-industrial setting. Textiles made up the single largest import from Britain in the 17th century. By 1789, the Hartford Woolen Manufactory had been established in Connecticut and George Washington ordered his inaugural suit made from the cloth made there.
