Description |
While much of the manufacture of goods has become the work of automation and machines, the Historic Trades department of Colonial Williamsburg strives to keep the traditions and techniques of early American craftsmen alive. Following the same master-and-apprentice relationship that was common in the 18th Century, trades like gardening, blacksmithing, bookbinding, and one of the newest trades ,painting, are taught to new generations. Lane Curran, a high school student, add youthful energy for younger guests as the new Apprentice Blacksmith Junior Interpreter. The goods made by the Historic Trades Department are available for purchase at auctions on Saturdays, but also support the infrastructure of the Historic Area as well.
