Title Patriots at Play
Issue Volume 02, Number 04 (T&T, Autumn 2017)
Description In spite of the difficulties faced by early Americans, they also found time for games and exercise. Colonists enjoyed cards, dice, walking, swimming, hunting and fishing. Even Thomas Jefferson, noted for his academic pursuits, wrote that health is worth more than knowledge. A new program, Patriots at Play, allows visitors to Colonial Williamsburg to experience some of those activities in the yard behind the Raleigh Tavern. Guests to the Historic Area should also look out for more interpreters playing at cards and try dancing at the Garden Party at the Palace.
