Description In May 1943, American and British military leaders met in Washington, D.C. to forge a strategy to win World War II. The conference, code-named Trident, was initially strained and contentious, So Gen. George C. Marshall, chief of staff of the U.S. Army chose to host a retreat in Williamsburg at the Inn with a schedule of sightseeing and relaxation that would showcase the two nations' shared history and reinforce the British-American alliance.
