Single letter from Charles Deane (1813–1889) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Samuel Eliot (1821–1898) of Boston, Massachusetts, apparently answering a question about the introduction of slaves into Virginia.
Charles Deane was a merchant with the firm of Waterston, Pray & Company. He retired from the firm in 1864 and devoted himself to the research early American history.
