A. Lawrence Kocher to George Bernard Shaw(1923 March 12)

  • MS 2009.14
  • 1 item

Letter of A. Lawrence Kocher to Bernard Shaw in which Kocher asks Shaw to “express an opinion upon the value of books for the young architect …” Shaw returned the letter with his response at the bottom noting that “the more an architect knows academically the worse he builds. Reading, picture gazing, and globe trotting all tend to shift an architect’s eyes to the back of his head. In England we had so many eminent 14th century faker-experts that the 19th century never had a dog’s chance architecturally.”
