Notes

This Bible belonged first to John Ball, whose name and date (1804) are inscribed on the title page. Under his name is L. Jane Waring (1836), Ball’s oldest daughter. The next page shows that upon her death the Bible was passed on to her half sister, Ann Ball Deas (1815–1859) who in 1841 gave it to her younger brother, Keating Simons Ball (1818–1891). Keating Ball attended Charleston Medical College, never married and lived at Comingtee all his life. His health did not allow him to join the Confederate Army, but he served in the local defence company, the Etiwan Rangers.
